Exploring the Role of Values in RRI for Energy Systems
On behalf of Olivier Ejderyan (ETH Zurich), Chris Groves (Cardiff University), Kirsten Jenkins (University of Brighton), Shannon Spruit (TU Delft) and Behnam Taebi (TU Delft), I would like to inform you about the Lorentz Center workshop on:

Exploring the Role of Values in RRI for Energy Systems
From Monday 07 Jan through Friday 11 Jan 2019
Lorentz Center@Oort – Leiden

Scientific Topic The goal of this workshop is to develop an understanding of RRI for energy systems, i.e. to propose an approach for the governance of technological development and innovation in energy systems that is responsive to public values, and capable of anticipating unintended consequences of innovation. Key themes:

· Values and responsible research and innovation in energy systems

· How values lead to contestation and conflict in energy transitions

· The relationship between values and energy system governance

· Creating an integrated approach to RRI for energy systems

This event aims at building a scholarly community around this topic, one which will enable mutual learning from applications of RRI in other fields, and which will lead to some governance recommendations based on our new shared understanding.

Workshop Format Lorentz Workshops@Oort are scientific meetings for small groups of up to 55 participants, including both senior and junior scientists. Lorentz Center meetings dedicate a considerable amount of time to discussion sessions, thus stimulating an interactive atmosphere and encouraging collaborations between participants. This format typically generates extensive debates and enables significant progress to be made within the research topic of the meeting.

Lorentz Center Facilities The venue Lorentz Center@Oort, located at the Faculty of Science campus of Leiden University, the Netherlands. The Lorentz Center provides each participant with office space and wireless internet access (LINUX and Windows). Lorentz Center also provides various practical services for the participants, such as arranging accommodations at the nearby hotel “Van der Valk Hotel Leiden” at a special rate (€ 85 per night including breakfast and taxes), visa assistance and bike rental. For further information, please refer to our website: www.lorentzcenter.nl.

Costs and Refunds Lorentz Center does not charge registration fees. In addition, Lorentz Center hosts a welcome reception and a workshop dinner, both free of charge.

As the workshop is built on interaction and discussion, we encourage you to participate for the whole workshop week.

Registration If you are interested in the workshop, you can register via the workshop webpage:
http://lorentzcenter.nl/lc/web/2019/1071/info.php3?wsid=1071&venue=Oort

You will be contacted about your application as soon as possible.

For further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Dr. S.L.
