The Swedish STS Conference 2024 invites you to submit abstracts and proposals for sessions! This years theme is Transmissions, Mediations, Interferences.
The Swedish STS Conference is an open, widely advertised, biennial conference, organized since 2006. It is an interdisciplinary meeting place for researchers interested in issues related to technology and science in society as approached from social science and humanities perspectives.
The conference takes place 3-4 October 2024 at the Museum of Work in Norrkping. Hosts and organisers: TEMA Technology and Social Change (TEMA T) and TEMA Gender Studies (TEMA G), Linkping University
Theme: With this years theme, we invite scholars to explore critically the dynamism and social life of both conventional and norm-breaking transmission of research in the broad sense of the term, and at all stages of the research process. We ask what frictions transmissions - as mediations, as interferences, and as transgressions - bring about? What is their generative potential in different contexts, and for different researchers? Which boundaries are affirmed, and which are unsettled through (un)orthodox modes of transmission, (un)conventional media upon which research relies, or the (un)expected and dispersed - dandelion like - afterlives of our research when it is out "in the wild"?
The conference calls for papers and sessions (also outside of the conference theme), in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian or English. The conference welcomes conventional sessions, but also the exploration of alternative formats, including but not limited to fishbowls, roundtables, workshops, show-and-tell sessions to explore these questions. The organising committee will welcome suggestions from participants.
Keynotes:
- Kat Jungnickel, Goldsmiths, University of London.
- Laura Watts, University of Copenhagen and Linkping University. The keynotes will provide inspiration through a joint talk and workshops with the conference participants. They will mobilise and put in action evocative examples from their own practice.
Important dates: Papers and sessions proposals deadline: 17 May 2024 Notice of acceptance is given no later than 7 June 2024 Registration closes on 1 September 2024 Conference takes place: 3-4 October 2024
Conference fee: 500 SEK (includes lunches, coffee breaks and the conference dinner).
