POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT
Academy of Finland project "Quantum Computing - from Labs to Markets" (2
years)
Are you excited to explore the emergence of technologies that will have a
major future impact? Do you have robust experience in collecting and analyzing
major qualitative datasets, and strive for high-quality research?
The Department of Management Studies at Aalto University School of Business
seeks applications for a two-year position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in
Organization and Management subject. The start date is between 1 February and
30 April 2020 (the date is to an extent negotiable). The position is in the
Academy of Finland project studying the transition of quantum computing from
labs to markets (2019-2023).
The project focuses on the socio-economic aspects of market emergence for
quantum computing, and the related science and technology. A prior
understanding of quantum computing or quantum physics is not expected - the
research team led by Prof. Nina Granqvist will support and train the candidate
in developing the suitable subject knowledge during the project.
We expect the candidate to have a demonstrated ability to conduct qualitative
data collection and analysis independently. Candidates with prior empirical
and conceptual understanding of technology and/or market emergence and
development are prioritized. Knowledge of the relevant literatures in
organization theory (e.g. institutional theory, sociology of markets,
socio-materiality, micro-social approaches), the sociology of science and
technology, or technology strategy are considered important. Moreover, a
suitable candidate has ambition to develop as a scholar, and to conduct high
quality research with the aim to publish in the best management journals.
Evidence of publishing skills is a merit. The position is associated with a
very moderate teaching load - one course per year.
We look for scholars who are completing, or have completed within the past
four years, their doctoral studies in a relevant field of study. The position
requires fluent skills in the English language. Additional language skills are
a merit. The post-doctoral researcher is required to be in residence for the
duration of the appointment.
We offer
The postdoctoral scholar joins an engaged research team consisting of
post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, and the principal investigator
with experience on technology and market emergence as well as publishing in
the leading journals. The project is well on the way, providing a great
setting to learn and to contribute. Moreover, we offer the opportunity to
collect data and participate in events abroad, and an opportunity for research
stays in our partner organizations in Europe and US.
The scholar joins a group of highly motivated and productive scholars. As one
of the leading management departments in Europe, The Department of Management
provides a great environment for academic development. The department
comprises several very competitive groups of organization theory, strategy,
organizational behavior, and sustainability management researchers who publish
in leading management journals such as AMJ, AMR, ASQ, SMJ, Organization
Science, and Organization Studies, among others. Moreover, the department has
a lively, international research community with numerous doctoral students and
post-doctoral researchers from several countries. The working language is
English. For more information, please see:

Salary is approximately 50.000 euros per annum. Aalto University also provides
