We are currently looking to recruit two post-doctoral researchers to join an exciting interdisciplinary research project funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI): Infra-Legalities: Global Security Infrastructures, Artificial Intelligence and International Law. This project is examining how AI and automated decision-making processes are reconfiguring global security law and governance, focusing on three areas: (i) digital bordering infrastructures; (ii) platform infrastructures for governing terrorist and violent extremist content online; and (iii) counterterrorism watchlisting infrastructures. These two-year posts are part of a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship project led by myself, Gavin Sullivan, at Edinburgh Law School. Applicants can come from a range of disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary backgrounds (including STS, Critical Data Studies, Critical Security Studies etc). A background in law is desirable, but not essential. Experience with empirical social science/STS/socio-legal research and a strong interest in problems of algorithmic governance, data infrastructures and data-driven injustice will be an advantage.
