A seminar on socio-history of computing

                Dear Colleagues,

This message is to inform you about the first session of the 2024-2025
Socio-History of Computing Seminar, a research
seminar organized by the HT2S laboratory research
center at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts in
Paris. The seminar aims to explore new narratives of the long-term history of
computing, focusing on how computing intertwines with social, economic,
political, and cultural issues. Every two months, we will invite a researcher
in the history and/or anthropology and sociology (with a historical or
diachronic perspective) of computing to present their work. Some sessions will
be held in French, others in English.

A presentation of our approach can be read
herehttps://sohistinfo.github.io/english/ and we are lookig forward for lively
discussions in the STS community!

The first session will take place online and at the Cnam in Paris on Monday,
October 14, 2024, from 3 PM to 5 PM, with Ksenia Ermoshina
 and Boris
Melnichenko (Internet and Societies
Center, CNRS) presenting on the topic: "A 'Sovereign Intelligence'?
Infrastructures, Representations, and the Geopolitics of Russian AI, a
Comparative Approach." The discussion will be moderated by Benjamin Brbaumer
(Sciences Po Bordeaux). The presentation will be in French.
