Call for Papers for Conference "Back to Frozen Earth: Permafrost in Social Theory and Beyond"

Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to invite you to apply for the upcoming conference, "Back to Frozen Earth: Permafrost in Social Theory and Beyond," which will take place on June 17-18, 2025, at Sciences Po in Paris. This interdisciplinary event aims to bring together scholars and practitioners from diverse fields—including sociology, anthropology, history, geography, political science, and cultural and media studies—as well as artists and activists—to explore the complex practices and imaginaries surrounding frozen earth in various historical and geographical contexts.

Important Dates:

  • Application Deadline: November 15, 2024
  • Notification of Acceptance: End of January 2025
  • Conference Dates: June 17-18, 2025

Selected participants will have the opportunity to submit their papers for inclusion in an edited volume focused on the conference theme.

Submission Guidelines: We invite you to submit your abstracts (maximum 300 words) along with a brief biographical note in a single PDF or Word document to anastasiya.halauniova@sciencespo.fr by November 15, 2024. We also welcome artistic interventions and poster presentations that engage with the themes of the conference.

Conference Participation:

Participation in the conference is free of charge, with no registration fee required. We will provide lunches and one dinner for all participants.
