Research Fellow Position for the project 'Toward a Political Ecology of Volume'
Dear all,
We are seeking to appoint a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work with Dr. Ariadne Collins (PI in School of International Relations), Dr Lydia Cole (Co-I in School of Geography and Sustainable Development) and Dr Theo Reeves-Evison (Birmingham School of Art) on a research project titled 'Toward a Political Ecology of Volume'. The project seeks to develop a volumetric understanding of the state within the sub-discipline of political ecology by investigating the expansion of state claims to carbon in the atmosphere through carbon offsetting and minerals beneath the ocean floor through deep sea mining. With a particular focus on the Global South, the project will investigate and visualize the colonial and volumetric dimensions of international efforts to manage the areas traditionally known as the global commons and threats to their sustainability.
The post is available for 9 months starting November 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
