Researcher and communications facilitator position

Researcher / Workshop and communications facilitator  (50%)

An opportunity has arisen to work with a research consultancy on an exciting project focusing on research cultures in bioscience PhD programmes. Research culture broadly refers to policies, attitudes and experiences relating to equality and diversity, mental health, bullying and harassment, scientific integrity, and other aspects of the context of science and biosciences training. You can read more about the project here.

We are seeking a creative, highly communicative person, who relishes working in participant action research.

The person will facilitate workshops (online, and when possible, face-to-face) and online communications, write up reports and contribute to publications. Ideally, they will have either a background or familiarity with biosciences, combined with some exposure to sociology, history or philosophy of the biosciences, or science communication. They should have a keen interest in using media in science contexts as a tool for reflection. The work involves participant action research, using creative qualitative research methods. Related skills and experience are highly desirable and excellent writing skills are essential.

The position includes some administrative duties.  Once it is easier to travel and meet in person, there will also be some travel around the UK.

This is a one year, fixed term, 50% position, with hours/days and location of work to be agreed. There is a probation period of two months. Salary is £35 000 to 40 000 p.a. pro rata depending on experience (that is, £17500 - 20 000 for 50%). Working times and locations are flexible.

In keeping with the fact that this project exists to enhance positive research culture,  of which diversity is a central part, we strive to achieve diversity in our small team.

If you are interested in applying, please write to a.carusi@inter-changeresearch.com. The deadline for applications is 16th August 2021. The process of selection will be quick, with a writing sample requested from shortlisted candidates. Starting date is early to mid-September.
