Launch Event SI "Alternative Histories in DIY Cultures & Maker Utopias" - Thu. April 29, 18.00 / 6 pm CET

apologies for cross-posting

Dear all,

We are happy to announce the publication of Alternative Histories in DIY Cultures & Maker Utopias, a special issue of Digital Culture & Society (Vo. 6, Issue 1, 2020). A brief abstract and further details can be found below.

We like to invite you to the launch event with many of the authors on Thursday, April 29th, 18.00-19.45 / 6-7.45 pm CET (Central European Time). Please register in advance for this meeting here .

Alternative Histories in DIY Cultures & Maker Utopias As DIY digital maker culture proliferates globally, research on these practices is also maturing. Still, particular terminologies dominate beyond their Western contexts, and technocultural histories of making are often rendered as over-simplified technomyths that render invisible diverse local practices. This special issue brings together contributions that highlight how historicising plays a role in mythmaking and the creation of social imaginaries.

The issue includes diverse and excellent contributions of full papers, exploratory papers, two interviews and a series of short (hi)stories. Our Introduction editorial is available open access . Each article is available from Transcript/De Gruyter here .

The full issue available to order in print or PDF can be found here . After one year it will be open access on the journal website .

All the best, Cindy Kohtala, Yana Boeva & Peter Troxler (guest editors)

Yana Boeva, PhD Postdoctoral Researcher, University of Stuttgart Institute for Social Sciences | Cluster of Excellence "Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture ”
