Lecturer Position (akademischer Rat) at TU Munich
Lecturer Position (Akademischer Rat, A13)
The Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS) at Technische
Universität München is inviting applications for the following position:
1 Lecturer Position (Akademischer Rat, A13)
(the position is fixed-term until 30.09.2022 with the option of extension)
The envisioned start date of employment is 11 February 2020.
About us
The MCTS is a cross-faculty integrative research center focusing on the
interface between technology and society. Our research is empirical,
interdisciplinary and reflexive. This involves a dialogue between
philosophers, social scientists, architects, engineers and natural
scientists in an attempt to explore mutual understanding and collaboration.
Requirements
Candidates must have completed their doctoral dissertation in the social
sciences, preferably in the field of Science and Technology Studies
(STS) or a related discipline. Applicants should ideally demonstrate a
double qualification, including training in both the social and the
natural sciences/engineering reflected in their university education.
Candidates from the social sciences without such a dual qualification
should demonstrate knowledgeability in one or more scientific or
technical domains obtained through previous research. Knowledge and
teaching experience in the field of STS, especially concerning issues of
responsibility, are beneficial. Candidates are expected to participate
in the MCTS community and to proactively build networks into other
(scientific or technical) departments at TUM.
Your tasks
Your main task will be to help develop and grow the MCTS’ unique
Master’s program „Responsibility in Science, Engineering and Technology“
(M.A. RESET). Funded by the Elitenetzwerk Bayern, RESET aims to straddle
disciplinary and institutional boundaries and to address increasingly
important societal responsibilities in the context of science, emerging
technologies, and innovation. Its innovative curriculum and
interdisciplinary faculty convey the knowledge and tools necessary to
understand and anticipate the consequences of established and emerging
technologies, and to contribute to responsible research and innovation.
Your primary task will be the advancement of this mission by
implementing innovative educational formats, also in cooperation with
STEM faculties of TUM. Besides teaching capacity in technology-specific
questions of responsibility, RESET is particularly looking for teaching
capacity in qualitative social science methods, academic skills, and the
supervision of independent student projects.
We offer…
…an excellent and inspiring research environment in which early career
researchers will refine and consolidate their profile as promising
internationally recognized researchers. MCTS offers many forms of
dialogue both with the scientific community as well as the general
public. Working within the MCTS you will gain inside experience of the
academic world and have access to various promising career pathways. We
are committed to raising the number of women in research and teaching.
Female researchers are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants with
disabilities are treated with preference given comparable qualification.
Application
Applications should be submitted as one single pdf document including a
letter of motivation, CV, certificates and a draft for a potential
graduate course.
Application deadline: 18 November 2019
Please send us your complete application to bewerbung@mcts.tum.de.
If you have specific questions about the application procedure, please
