Public Science Lab Launch Invitation
Dear EASST-EUROGRAD Members Please see below an invitation to the launch of the Technical University of Munich's Public Science Lab, an organisation aimed at experimenting with ways of involving the public in science, something which may be of interest to many of you. Get in touch if you have any questions. Best wishes Elis Jones (On behalf of the TUM Public Science Lab) -------------------- Deutsche Version siehe unten We cordially invite you to the opening of the TUM Public Science Lab October 9, 2025, 1:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. TUM Think Tank, Richard-Wagner-Str. 1, 80333 Munich Public Science experimental spaces for society-centred innovation. Registration is requested by 22 September 2025: https://forms.gle/iacC6Fe3DZsn8N666 As part of the TUM 2030+ Excellence Strategy, our university attaches great importance to society-centred and responsible science and innovation. This raises questions: * Is science a public practice? * What does it mean for science to be public? * Who is involved, for what purposes and under what conditions? The Public Science Lab (PSL) is an experimental research infrastructure at TUM that will provide answers to these questions. The lab is developed by the Department of Science, Technology and Society (SOT) and pursues a participatory, inclusive and responsible approach to scientific knowledge production. Central to this is the participation of diverse publics in all phases of scientific research. In this way, we broaden the knowledge and experience base through which societies work on the challenges of our time. The event is based on the four facets of the Public Science Lab: research, cooperation with politics and administration, non-university teaching and learning, and experiments at the intersection of art and science. We invite you to join our thinking and development process in conversation: 12:00 Noon lunch snacks 13:00 Opening of the Public Science Lab * Thomas F. Hofmann, President of the Technical University of Munich * Jeanne Rubner, Vice President for Global Communication and Public Engagement * Sabina Leonelli, Anne Rademacher, Jrg Niewhner, STS Department: * Introduction to the work of the Public Science Lab 13:45 Exchange of Knowledge * Market stalls showcasing a range of publicly engaged research projects 16:00 Summary and Outlook 17:00 Conclusion The PSL is a collaborative project organized by the research assistants Desire Hetzel and Elis Jones, as well as the three chairs of Sabina Leonelli, Jrg Niewhner and Anne Rademacher.
