Dear colleagues at EASST,

We are pleased to inform you about a*Call for Applications *from theifa
Research Programme “Culture and Foreign Policy”
 on *“Regional
Expertise as Soft Power: Country-Specific Expertise in International
Comparison”*.**You can find more details about the Call for Applications
through the following link:

  * English: https://bit.ly/ResearchRegionalExpertise
  * German: https://bit.ly/ForschungRegionalwissen

**

The aim of this research project is to explore the state of area studies
and show which regional expertise (including competences and skills) are
lacking or severely depleted in Germany and other selected European
countries, how policy could offer incentives to build up certain
competences in this regard in addition to the freedom and independence
of higher education institutions, or to what extent greater cooperation
at European level should take place to fill specific gaps. The aim is
not to take stock of or map university degree programmes or research
centres, but to obtain an assessment from key stakeholders in academia
and politics in an international comparison. How do European partners
approach this issue? Where do they see greater needs for regional
expertise? What strategies do other countries such as the USA, China, or
India have?

*Perhaps this may be interesting for the association and/or for the
EASST network? *

The deadline to apply is 27^th August 2024 and we welcome research
proposals in English or in German.

The ifa Research Programme on “Culture and Foreign Policy” provides
experts with an opportunity to conduct research on current topics
related to international cultural relations and to work at the nexus of
theory and practice. The latest academic findings are summarised
concisely and precisely for those involved in foreign cultural and
educational work. We work closely with the Federal Foreign Office and
thus offer the opportunity to discuss the findings directly with the
relevant actors and to formulate possible foreign policy measures.

We would be grateful if you could *kindly disseminate this call within
your network(s)*. Should you have recommendations of suitable experts to
take on this research project, we would be grateful to receive your
suggestions as well.

Should you have further questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Warm regards,

Ivana Putri
