<br>We seek to appoint an outstanding social scientist for the position of
<br>Lecturer in Digital Methods, within Science, Technology and Innovation Studies
<br>(STIS), part of the School of Social and Political Science (SPS).
<br>
<br>With expertise in digital methods, you will further the School’s
<br>international reputation and its commitment to excellence in interdisciplinary
<br>scholarship, teaching and administration. You will present a research profile
<br>which is at the forefront of the field of digital methods and social data
<br>science in both experience to date and in future potential.
<br>
<br>You will demonstrate experience, achievement and potential reflected in a
<br>growing personal teaching and supervisory portfolio. You will be expected to
<br>deliver online courses, and provide personal tutoring, to students on the
<br>cross-College MSc Programme ‘Data Science Technology and Innovation’
<br>(DSTI); develop a dissertation preparation course on ‘Social Shaping of
<br>Digital Research’; and provide training/workshops on ‘Mixed Digital
<br>Methods’ for the School of Social and Political Science’s (SPS) new
<br>Research Training Centre (RTC). You will also in time play an active role in
<br>developing a ‘Social Data Science’ pathway for the DSTI Programme. In
<br>addition, you will supervise postgraduate students and undertake management
<br>and administrative duties commensurate with the role, whilst pursuing high
<br>quality research and knowledge exchange activities in a relevant area of
<br>social data science.
<br>
<br>You will play a full part in the collegial life of the Subject Area and the
<br>School, and must be able and willing to operate within, and contribute to, the
<br>interdisciplinary environment of STIS, which involves collaborations with
<br>other School subject areas, and other Units across the University’s
<br>Colleges, including the Data Science Education Centre of Excellence hosted by
<br>the Bayes Centre and the Edinburgh Futures Institute.
