9-month Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position – Global Sustainability Institute

The Global Sustainability Institute (Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UK) is looking to recruit a fixed term Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to work on the new EU Horizon 2020 project, RRING (‘Responsible Research & Innovation Networking Globally’), which is being co-ordinated by University College Cork.

The Research Fellow will help lead a global review of Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) relevant initiatives, specifically covering energy, waste, digital and the bio-economy. There will be a particular emphasis on going ‘beyond the EU’ and thus global south geographies will be central to this review work. Moreover, given how RRI has been dominated by its European roots, the review will intentionally search for other relevant initiatives that align with RRI thinking. As such, we welcome applications from researchers who may not necessarily have worked directly in RRI before, but have experience in considering e.g. gender, public engagement, ethics, justice, reflexivity, anticipatory processes, etc. in the context of research/innovation. The outputs of the review exercise will feed into the project’s overall goal of establishing better links between RRI and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, as part of laying the foundations for a new UNESCO-led global network on RRI. Full details are available here.

Since the GSI was established in 2011, it has built a reputation for high impact publications across a broad range of sustainability issues. We are part of the £6m ESRC Centre for Understanding Sustainable Prosperity, have won grants from six of the seven UK research councils (ESRC, EPSRC, AHRC, BBSRC, NERC, STFC), are currently leading three EU projects (e.g. €2m H2020 project SHAPE ENERGY) as well as acting as Work Package lead on others (e.g. MEDEAS). We received recognition for world-leading research and impact in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Anglia Ruskin University, and the GSI in particular, have a strong culture of supporting flexible working.

The closing date is 10 June 2018. Interviews will take place on 19 June 2018, in Cambridge. The anticipated start date is 1 August 2018, although there is some small flexibility. Informal enquiries (chris.foulds@anglia.ac.uk) before application are strongly recommended.
