The PhD in Economic and Organizational Sociology offered by the Lisbon
School of Economics and Management (ISEG) of the Universidade de Lisboa
(Portugal) is a three-year program that includes theoretical background on
institutions, communities, policies and markets.

Usually, our students conduct research in a variety of topics, including
public policies, corporate social responsibility, corporate governance,
organization studies, professions and work, migration studies, sustainable
development, social studies of science, social studies of finance, formal
and informal markets, alternative economies, network analysis, classic
sociological theory, cultural economy, gender studies or value theory.
Different methodological approaches have been tested, from logistic
regression models and statistical analysis to participant methodologies and
ethnography. An interesting balance between applied and fundamental research
has also been achieved.

In the last 10 years, the program benefited a lot from former alumni from
different continents. Our program is also inherently linked to our research
Consortium CSG and PhD students are orientated by researchers and teachers
from our lab (SOCIUS/CSG). International collaboration is a major objective
for this singular program, since that not many economics and business
schools offer an advanced customized program with such a strong sociological
axis.

The program is offered in English and Portuguese, in the latter case
whenever there are only Portuguese-speaking students as candidates.

Applications for 2018-2019 are open right now; the application period is
from December1 to June 11. For submitting to this program, you need to
present your CV and your research project that will be evaluated afterwards.
A tuition fee is required (100 euros). The academic year lasts from
September 2018 to June 2019.
