PhD position Inclusive Value chains for Maritime Biofuels

Job description
The Biotechnology & Society group of Delft University of Technology is looking
for a PhD candidate for a project on inclusive value chains for maritime
biofuels (CLEAN SHIPPING). The shipping industry is in dire need of clean and
sustainable fuels. This project focusses on the major social issues in the
transition to inclusive biobased value chains for maritime biofuels and seeks
to develop new business models to overcome these issues. Reconciling the
targets of sustainable supply security and value creation for local producers
of biomass requires alignment of various actors relevant to the value chain.
Just distribution of risks and benefits is key in achieving this alignment.
The project involve case-studies for different feedstocks in Africa and
South-America. Relevant actors and their particular interests and perspectives
will be investigated through interviews and surveys. The results will be
translated into guidelines to set up inclusive biobased value chains.
The research will be conducted in close collaboration with a variety of
biobased industry and shipping industry partners. The project is part of a
Responsible Innovation project which also involves another PhD-candidate
