Our profile
The teaching and research area of Applied Ethics and Ethics of Technology of
the RWTH Aachen under the direction of Prof. Dr. Saskia Nagel is located at
the Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Research.
The working group helps to realize an integrated interdisciplinary technical
university and performs a bridging function at the RWTH Aachen University. The
group addresses questions about the ethical and social challenges of
scientific and technological progress. It develops the interdisciplinary
potential between philosophy and the natural and engineering sciences. Key
topics are the philosophy and ethics of the human-technology relationship.
This includes ethical and social issues in Cognitive Science, Neuroscience,
Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Internet of Things, Emerging Medical
Technologies, e.g. e-health, new biotechnologies - and the impact on
individual and social well-being.
Your profile
- PhD in Philosophy and / or Applied Ethics and / or Interdisciplinary
Studies, with a specialization in Philosophy / Ethics.
- Pronounced knowledge in Applied Ethics and / or Practical Philosophy (ethics
of technology, neuroethics, ethics of AI, data ethics, biomedical ethics,
applied philosophy of technology)
- Experience in interdisciplinary work
- Good analytical skills
- Good IT-skills
- Very good proficiency in English (oral and written)
- Ability to independent scientific work
- Responsibility, creativity, flexibility, team orientation
- Interest in policy and the practical applications of ethics
- Willingness to teach in various degree programs on issues of applied ethics
- Previous work has already been presented at conferences and accepted in
international, competitive journals
Desired:
- Competence in ethical theory
- Experiences with reflection on current developments in the field of
human-technology interaction, biotechnology, or autonomous systems
- Knowledge and practical experience in methods of empirical social research
or empirical philosophy
The following application documents are required: Letter of motivation, CV,
research project proposal up to 750 words, certificates, publication list,
either a summary and table of contents of your dissertation or the entire
dissertation, and the names of two references.
Your responsibilities
You will have tasks in research and teaching. We expect you to publicize
research results in international, competitive journals. The job includes
assistance in the development of curricula and research applications.
What we offer
The successful candidate will be employed as a public servant.
The position is to be filled as soon as possible and for 2 years.
This is a full-time position.
The salary corresponds to level E13 TV-L.
