4y postdoc position in critical AI studies
Hello all, Apologies for cross-posting. I am recruiting a postdoc to join our "PerformingAI" project team at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). No disciplinary pre-requisits beyond a phd in social sciences/STS (broadly defined). German and/or French skills strongly preferred. More detailed information in the job ad and below: https://human-ist.unifr.ch/en/news/news/32103/ ***** As part of the international research project "Performing Artificial IntelligenceGovernance, Agency, Action: an Interdisciplinary Inquiry", funded by the SNSF, the Institute Human-IST (Dr. Anna Jobin) at the University of Fribourg invites applications for a Postdoctoral Position (70-80%; extendable up to 4 years). The overall research project is dedicated to the discursive, situational, aesthetic, and material constitution of AI. The team of Dr. Anna Jobin will focus on discursive performativity in the area of AI policy, with the future postdoc having some freedom in shaping the analysis of AI governance. Your tasks: * Collaboration on the research project * Publications and conference participations (national and international) * Further academic activities within the team's areas of focus * General supervision, coordination, and administrative work Your profile: * Recently completed doctoral studies in a social science discipline (especially sociology, political science, communication science, STS) * Strong interest in the research topic; interest in interdisciplinarity and theory development; reflexivity regarding one's own research practice * Very good knowledge of various research methods and their application * Existing expertise in the areas of AI policy and/or Swiss political processes is advantageous * Excellent time management, ability to take initiative, and work independently * Very good English skills in speaking and writing, good knowledge of German or French (passive knowledge of the other language is an advantage) We offer * Interdisciplinary contemporary research on a current topic in politics and society * A collegial, multilingual work environment with excellent infrastructure * Attractive, flexible working conditions with diverse opportunities for further education Starting date: March 1, 2025, or by agreement Please send your electronic application to Esther Mauron esther.mauron AT unifr.ch.
