Many thanks, Mélanie Dulong de Rosnay and Francesca Musiani -- Postdoctoral researcher on digital commons Missions Recruitment within the Horizon Europe project NGI Commons (Open Source and Internet Commons for Europe's Digital Sovereignty) to ensure strategic alignment and integration of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) efforts within the broader European Digital / Internet Commons (DC/IC) context The candidate will carry out this scientific research, prepare articles presenting their research at conferences and in journals, and contribute to the results of the project with the project team. Activities Map active communities in Europe based on interviews Analyse existing governance models Propose recommendations for the growth, maintenance, security and sustainability of the digital commons and strategies for the inclusion of the digital commons and the internet on the political agenda Design policies to strengthen the development of free and open source software and commons contributing to European digital sovereignty and ethical technological development respectful of human rights Organise and participate in meetings and conferences with communities, members of funding bodies and public digital infrastructure investment programmes, and political, governmental and European institutions. Skills Prior education and experience: The candidate must have a PhD in law, sociology of technology, or political science and a prior research experience on the topic of digital/internet commons and open source. Prior knowledge of governance of the commons and experience with interview methodology is required. Familiarity with the French and European actors of the digital/internet commons and open source is highly desired. Language: An excellent command of spoken and written English is required and a good reading and speaking knowledge of French is highly desired. Skills required: Writing skills, ability to formulate/work on a scientific project Ability to work in a team and independently Organisational ability and ability to account for one's own actions Ability to communicate, analyse and argue a case, summary and critical evaluation Work Context: European project NGI Commons - 101135279 - GAP-101135279 Working hours: 38.30 hours, based at the CNRS Centre for Internet and Society in Paris Travel in France and Europe for interviews, consortium meetings and conferences (4-6 missions per year) with a travel budget from the project. The candidate will be working with Mélanie Dulong de Rosnay and Francesca Musiani in Paris 17ème arrondissement. CIS is an international team composed of researchers in sociology of technology and in law involved in French-based, European and international grants, among others: 7 other projects on open data, data science, open science, and AI; a network of 600 researchers working in the Internet and Society field, including working groups on open science and digital commons policy; a partnership with the Open Knowledge Foundation on open data sustainability, a research cluster on open and shared knowledge. The duration of the contract may be between 24 and 36 months, depending on the number of years of post-doctoral experience of the candidate. The starting date could be 1/1/2024 or 1/2/2024.
