Lecturer in Design Cultures

The Design Cultures lectureship fulfils an important role in enhancing critical, historical, and contextual enquiry at the Department of Design. The lecturer in is expected to have an understanding of design practices while also bringing new perspectives to these through investigating and demonstrating their contemporary societal, economic, political and cultural contexts. An important part of the job is the engagement with a range of publics in critical thinking about design, including and beyond the academic community. This can be conducted, for example, through curation, publishing or events.
The post-holder has a doctoral degree in Design Cultures, Design History or a related discipline in the Humanities or Social Sciences where they can demonstrate a deep and rigorous understanding of contemporary design cultures. They will be expected to teach across the Department’s programmes and majors at undergraduate and graduate level and undertake doctoral advising.
