Job opening: pre-doc fellowship at the University of Milan

Job opening Pre-doctoral fellowship (borsa laureati promettenti) at the University of Milan for the project The pandemic within: Charting the Societal Impact of NeuroCovid, carried out as part of the activities of the Social Sciences & Humanities Framework WP of the Horizon Europe-funded NEUROCOV project. The project will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Luca Marelli at the Research Unit in Ethics and Governance of Health Research, within the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Translational Medicine named Department of excellence 2023-2027 by MUR (Italian Ministry of University and Research) at the University of Milan. As part of the social sciences & humanities WP, the project will be pursued in close synergy with partners from KU Leuven (Prof. Ine Van Hoyweghen and Dr. Janneke Kuiper at the Life Sciences & Society Lab, WP Lead) and Human Technopole (Prof. Giuseppe Testa). Project synopsis Drawing on qualitative research methodologies, the project is geared to study the lived experiences of patients suffering from (neurological manifestations of) Long Covid, recruited in clinical cohorts in Italy and Germany, and investigate emerging forms of social mobilization and advocacy implemented by Long Covid patient groups in the European context. Ultimately, the project is aimed at identifying the specific vulnerabilities and possible forms of discrimination that affect this patient population, while probing how the medical category of the so-called 'NeuroCovid' is constructed at the intersection of emerging forms of knowledge-making by different stakeholders (clinicians, research scientists, patient advocacy groups, etc.). Profile A Master degree (in Medical Sociology or other discipline, preferably within the Social Sciences & Humanities or the Life Sciences), obtained within the last 3 years. Age requirement for the borsa laureati promettenti: 30 years-old or less. Oral and written communication skills in English and Italian (an extra asset). Preferred experience with social scientific methods, such as qualitative methods. Ability and flexibility to work in an international research team. Good organizational skills, proactive attitude Enthusiastic and committed to advance research on the topic. The position A full-time position within an internationally focused research team headquartered in the city of Milan - with relevant experience and expertise.
