Call for Abstracts EASST-4S 2024 (and advice: book accommodation ASAP)
Dear all, The Call for Abstracts for the EASST-4S 2024 conference in Amsterdam is now open. We welcome contributions to both Traditional Open Panels and Combined Format Open Panels, as well as Making & Doing contributions, stand-alone Workshops, Roundtables, Closed Panels and Meet-Ups. Submissions can be made until February 12th (23:59 CEST), only via the online forms on the conference website, not via email. We are very much looking forward to receiving your proposals. Submit an abstract to an Open Panel Directly go the webpage to submit your proposal and find details on terms and requirements. Browse through the online panel list to find a panel suitable to you, and propose directly to that panel. There are two types of Open Panels: * Traditional Open Panels only welcome regular academic papers. * Combined Format Open Panels may include academic paper presentations, while also welcoming experimental formats of knowledge expression. Read the panel abstract to see which kind of contributions are welcomed. Please note that the Call for Open Panels had an overwhelming response and over 390 panels were accepted. This may mean that panels may need to be limited in the number of sessions they contain, depending on the number of paper proposals received. Making & Doing, Workshops, Roundtables, Closed Panels and Meet-Ups Directly go the webpage to submit your proposal and find details on terms and requirements. Making & Doing encourages STS researchers to share work that extends beyond the academic paper or book. Therefore, we invite submissions of experimental work and exploratory practices that are best presented interactively, outside of a traditional panel format. Contributions that take up speculative, participatory, and/or reflexive approaches to the study of science, technology and society, and that experiment with modes of knowledge production, expression and travel are particularly welcomed. Workshops are conceptualized as practical events containing collective research activities, guided interactions and free-format exchanges leading to specific public outputs. A workshop may have up to two 90-minute sessions (due to high attendance and capacity restrictions, we may need to reduce this to one session only). Roundtables bring together a group of scholars to discusses themes or issues of general scholarly interest in front of (and subsequently with) an audience for the duration of a single 90-minute session. While a roundtable can include short (5-10 minute) contributions, the aim is to create a lively debate rather than focus on any one presenter. Closed Panels are pre-organized panels with invited presenters. A closed panel needs to be restricted to a single 90-minute session and is expected to contain 4-6 paper abstracts. Meet-Ups are less formal social gatherings or meetings around research communities, publishing communities, shared approaches, research topics, or regional foci. Most meet-ups will be allocated 1-hour slots during lunch breaks, but we will accept a limited number of requests for longer sessions Decisions on the proposals will be communicated by 4 March 2024. Participation guidance Remember that there are guidelines to the number of roles you can take at the conference, you can find the details on the Call for Abstracts page. Please note: contributing to the Making & Doing program and organizing a Meet-Up doesnot count toward limits on conference participation. Book your accommodation asap If you are considering attending the conference, we strongly advise you to book your accommodation now, with a cancellation option, as accommodation prices are likely to be very high by the time you will receive notification of whether your abstract is accepted or not. Please see the accommodation information on the conference website. Visa letter If you need a visa letter to apply for a Schengen visa and waiting times for visas are long in your area, you may want to seriously consider submitting your abstract well before the submission deadline. Go to the Call for Abstracts page for more information on how to request a visa letter. Questions?
