FW: CFP 4S/EASST, Prague, August 18th to 21st 2020: Approaching the Digital Anthropocene
Dear Colleagues,

Please consider submitting an abstract for our panel Approaching the Digital Anthropocene at EASST/4S this summer in Prague.

Deadline for abstracts is February 29th

Best

James, Rachel, and Astrid

Approaching the Digital Anthropocene

Deadline for abstract submission: February 29th, 2020

Conveners:

James Maguire, IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark (jmag@itu.dk)

Rachel Douglas Jones, IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Astrid O Andersen, Aalborg University, Denmark

Panel Abstract

It is becoming increasingly more difficult to address digital questions without considering how they overlap and intersect with environmental concerns. We make the digital from the natural world, crafting metals and plastics into sleek handheld forms, while powering our data through vast quantities of energy consumption. We observe and make our understandings of environments through digital devices, spreadsheet accounting and carbon calculations. We have brought epochal shifts into being through rhetoric, disciplines, and geological measures. The Anthropocene is a digitally mediated and produced time.

Yet the ‘we’ of these statements is an unevenly distributed set of actors, and the politics of producing (knowledge of) the Digital Anthropocene are pressing. From planetary observation and oceanic measurement to marine tailings, the appropriation of precious metals and labors of pollution, anthropogenic knowledge is deeply woven in with computation, tools, media and devices. It is also constituted through histories of colonialism, political economy, and ways of being in and knowing the world.

This panel invites scholars with an interest in the manifold interfaces and imbrications between and within the environmental and the digital. Our aspiration is to begin a conversation on how researchers can approach what we are provocatively calling the digital anthropocene. We invite papers from those who are already conducting research at this interface, as well as those who are interested in contributing to the emergence of a quasi-new field within STS.

Individual Abstract Submissions
Abstracts to be submitted directly via 4S/EASSTs website. Log in here: https://convention2.allacademic.com/one/ssss/prague20/

After you log in, click 'Submit A New Proposal', and then 'Papers For Open Panels'. Scroll down through the list of open where you will find Approaching the Digital Anthropocene. Abstracts are limited to 250 words.

If you have any questions about the panel, please mail James Maguire at jmag@itu.dk

Best
James, Rachel, and Astrid

James Maguire, PhD
Assistant Professor
IT University of Copenhagen | Rued Langgaards Vej 7 | 2300 Copenhagen S
Technologies in Practice| Department of Business IT| Research Profile | www.itu.dk
Office 3BO7 | Tel: +45 7218 5000 / Direct: +45 50497551|

_______________________________________________
EASST's Eurograd mailing list
Eurograd (at) lists.easst.net
Unsubscribe or edit subscription options: https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Flists.easst.net%2Flistinfo.cgi%2Feurograd-easst.net&data=01%7C01%7Cjmag%40itu.dk%7C051f8d4c7f514af64e4608d782b10a28%7Cbea229b67a084086b44c71f57f716bdb%7C0&sdata=bRX%2FeWzvAZVvXKQOyZFiwBS%2BkfpZlSekMpiRuqhe89Y%3D&reserved=0

Meet us via https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FSTSeasst&data=01%7C01%7Cjmag%40itu.dk%7C051f8d4c7f514af64e4608d782b10a28%7Cbea229b67a084086b44c71f57f716bdb%7C0&sdata=zegL38cZmPgowx8r0xqtmBHMlT4ULPWGa3d%2F%2FBPWtt0%3D&reserved=0

Report abuses of this list to Eurograd-owner@lists.easst.net
_______________________________________________
EASST's Eurograd mailing list
Eurograd (at) lists.easst.net
Unsubscribe or edit subscription options: http://lists.easst.net/listinfo.cgi/eurograd-easst.net

Meet us via https://twitter.com/STSeasst

Report abuses of this list to Eurograd-owner@lists.easst.netview formatted text
