Professor in social studies of science and technology, focus on energy and <br>society <br> <br>https://www.jobbnorge.no/ledige-stillinger/stilling/155158/professor-in-socia <br>l-studies-of-science-and-technology <br>We hereby advertise a permanent position as Professor (100 % position) in <br>social studies of science and technology (STS) at Department of <br>Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture (KULT), Norwegian University of Science <br>and Technology (NTNU). <br>About the department <br>Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture is part of Faculty of <br>Humanities at NTNU and localised at Dragvoll in Trondheim. The department has <br>21 permanent scientific positions and presently, 29 research fellows, <br>postdocs, and temporary researchers. We are engaged in research and teaching <br>within two fields: Gender studies and social studies of science and <br>technology. We offer courses at all levels, including PhD. The department has <br>a high level of research activity with a high proportion of external funding. <br>More information about the department may be found at http://www.ntnu.no/kult <br>Faculty employed within social studies of science and technology are engaged <br>in teaching, research and outreach, focusing on a broad spectrum of social <br>challenges. We are in particular engaged with sustainable energy, <br>climate-related transitions, transport, research policy, digitalization, <br>knowledge utilisation, and feminist technoscience. This implies a focus on <br>studies of sustainability transitions, research and innovation, political <br>processes, governance and public administration, and public engagement and <br>democratic participation. <br>Relevant tasks for the successful applicant <br>*Teaching at bachelor, master and PhD levels. <br>*Supervising master and PhD students. <br>*Participating in implementing the teaching plan of the department according <br>to existing curriculum. <br>*Research and research management, including tasks related to the department's <br>participation in Centre for Sustainable Energy Studies (CenSES) and possible <br>new similar initiatives related to energy and climate change issues. <br>*Acquisition and management of externally funded research projects. <br>*Participating in and further develop relevant national and international <br>networks. <br>*Participating in administrative duties at the department. <br>The work obligation will be split about equally between research and teaching <br>after necessary administrative work is subtracted. <br>Applicants must have: <br>*PhD in social studies of science and technology (STS) and a good overview of <br>main theoretical approaches within social studies of science and technology. <br>*Broad and excellent experience from research, teaching and outreach related <br>to social studies of science and technology. This includes in-depth knowledge <br>of and comprehensive experience from employing qualitative research methods. <br>In particular, documented first-rate research competence from social studies <br>of energy and climate change issues. <br>*A passion for teaching and the ability to inspire and communicate well with <br>students. <br>*Documented, strong pedagogical competence and didactic skills in university <br>education. This evaluation will be based on documented pedagogical education, <br>experience from supervising PhD and/or master's candidates, and other teaching <br>and pedagogical experience. Any person employed without formal university <br>pedagogical qualifications or other documented equivalent qualifications will <br>be required to attend and complete a course in university pedagogics within <br>two years. For further information, see: <br>http://www.ntnu.edu/vacancies/pedagogical-qualifications <br>*Very good collaboration skills and interest in and experience from teamwork <br>and interdisciplinary research. <br>*Documented, comprehensive experience from grant application efforts towards <br>research councils and the EU. <br>*Documented successful experience from research leadership, including project <br>management. <br>The following aspects will be particularly emphasised in the evaluation: <br>*The quality and relevance of the scholarly publications. <br>*Publications in international journals and with presses with peer review. <br>*The level of publication activity during the last five years. <br>*High level skills and strong motivation with respect to teaching and <br>supervision. <br>*Ability to and interest in initiating new research projects and similar, more <br>comprehensive activities, like participation in research centres and <br>researcher networks. <br>*Motivation for and ambitions with respect to academic work in social studies <br>of science and technology. <br>*Sufficient high quality scholarly competence with respect to studies of <br>energy and climate change issues and documented experience from research <br>leadership to exercise research leadership within the department's prioritised <br>activities, including participation in existing and future centres linked to <br>national and international research priorities. <br>*Excellent interpersonal skills and personal suitability. <br>*Working knowledge of (good ability to speak and read) Norwegian, Danish <br>and/or Swedish is considered an important advantage because this is <br>significant to be able to fulfil the tasks of the advertised position, like <br>teaching, supervision and academic service work. <br>*Strong knowledge of English, oral as well as written. <br>Application <br>The application must be sent electronically through the website Jobbnorge <br>(http://jobbnorge.no), and be marked with the file number for the position (HF <br>18-038). <br>The application must include: <br>*An application letter outlining your motivation for the position, including <br>the name and contact information of 3 reference persons. <br>*CV and authorized documentation of certificates and study records <br>*A brief (3-5 pages) description of the applicant's intellectual profile with <br>a commented overview of the scholarly work that s/he considers most <br>significant and wants to submit for the evaluation. The description should <br>include, but does not need to be limited to, the up to 10 scholarly <br>publications that may be submitted for the evaluation (see below). Co-authored <br>work will be part of the evaluation. However, applicants must enclose a short <br>description of her/his contribution. <br>*A list of all publications with bibliographical reference. <br>*Documentation and account of the applicant's pedagogical qualifications <br>according to "Dokumentasjon av skers pedagogiske kvalifikasjoner ved <br>tilsetting i vitenskapelig stilling ved NTNU", downloadable from <br>http://www.ntnu.no/ledige-stillinger/pedagogiske-kvalifikasjoner <br>*A teaching philosophy statement (one-page). <br>Please note: Applications that are not sent through Jobbnorge and/or are sent <br>after the application deadline will not be taken into consideration <br>Process <br>Scholarly publications shall NOT be attached to the application. After the <br>application deadline, selected applicants will be nominated for further <br>evaluation. All applicants will be notified if they are nominated or not. <br>Nominated applicants will be invited to submit a selection of their scholarly <br>work, which they consider important for the expert evaluation committee's <br>assessment of academic qualifications. It will be possible to submit 5 copies <br>of up to 7 - 10 publications, of which no more than one can be a monograph. It <br>will be possible to submit extracts from larger scholarly publications as well <br>as unpublished work as part of the 7-10 publications. <br>The publications submitted for the assessment should be sent by email to case <br>handler Hege Tver Nilsson, e-mail: hege.tvera.nilsson@ntnu.no <br>The best candidates will be invited to deliver a trial lecture and attend an <br>interview at the department. <br> <br>Regulations and salary <br>The position of Professor is remunerated based on the national salary scheme, <br>with a minimum gross salary of NOK 517.700,-. The successful applicant will <br>normally be remunerated by NOK 673.800 - NOK 792.700,-. Two percent of gross <br>salary is deducted and paid into the State Pension Scheme. <br>Primary residence in Trondheim is a prerequisite. The place of work will be <br>Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture. We aim at an appointment <br>date of January, 2019. <br>Newly employed staff in academic positions who are not already fluent in a <br>Scandinavian language, must within three years obtain knowledge of Norwegian <br>or another Scandinavian language at an equivalent standard to level three in <br>the "Norwegian for Foreigners" courses provided by the Department of Language <br>and Literature. The University will make it possible for the person appointed <br>to attend such a course. <br>The appointment will be made in accordance with the regulations in force <br>concerning Government Employees and Civil Servants. <br>It is policy within the state sector that employees should come from <br>backgrounds that reflect as fully as possible the diversity of the population <br>at large.
