<br>the Horizon2020 project entitled *“Subsurface Evaluation of CCS and
<br>Unconventional Risks (SECURe)”*
<br>

<br>
<br>Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, is currently looking for a
<br>post-doctoral researcher to work part-time in the H2020 project SECURe for
<br>3 year starting from 1 June 2018. The candidate must hold, or will be about
<br>to be awarded, a PhD degree in social sciences (sociology, anthropology,
<br>psychology, STS, political science, geography, environmental sciences) and
<br>have interest in social studies of technologies (technology assessment,
<br>risk studies, responsible research and innovation, public perceptions of
<br>technology). Fluent English and Polish language skills, very good
<br>communication, organizational and writing skills are required.
<br>
<br>*Requirements:*
<br>
<br>·         PhD degree in social sciences (sociology, anthropology,
<br>psychology, STS, political science, geography)
<br>
<br>·         Documented experience in social studies of technology (project
<br>participation or a publication record)
<br>
<br>·         Fluent English and Polish language skills (both in speech and
<br>writing)
<br>
<br>·         Very good communication skills
<br>
<br>·         Very good organizational skills
<br>
<br>·         High motivation and flexibility, readiness to travel within
<br>Poland (Warsaw, Poznań, other locations of shale gas exploration in the
<br>South and North of Poland and CO2 storage to conduct fieldwork interviews,
<br>organize stakeholder meetings) and abroad (take part in the project
<br>consortium meetings)
<br>
<br>A successful candidate will carry out the following tasks within the
<br>project’s *WP5 Developing and Sharing Best Practice Recommendations* to:
<br>
<br>•       Integrate the lessons learned from WPs 1 to 4, together with
<br>evidence of best practice internationally, and drawing upon a deep
<br>understanding of public needs.
<br>
<br>•       Exchange and disseminate best practice and knowledge of, inter
<br>alia, technology deployment, public engagement and monitoring
<br>methodologies, both developed within the project and identified from a
<br>global portfolio of projects, in environmental monitoring and risk
<br>reduction.
<br>
<br>•       Co-develop tailor made strategies for stakeholder engagement
<br>through participatory monitoring in actual use cases, to apply and evaluate
<br>these strategies and to draw best practices for participatory monitoring,
<br>as a strategy for engaging local stakeholders in the development of
<br>monitoring programs for geoenergy projects.
<br>
<br>•       Implement a platform for growing and supporting European expertise
<br>in environmental monitoring for subsurface geoenergy, particularly CO2
<br>storage and shale gas production
<br>
<br>•       Establish an expert hub of European and international practitioners
<br>including a training programme for researchers at all levels.
<br>
<br>*Outputs of WP5:*
<br>
<br>•       Recommendations on *best practice* for establishing environmental
<br>baseline conditions (groundwater quality, induced seismicity, ground
<br>movement, emissions to atmosphere) in the subsurface and at the surface for
<br>CO2 storage and shale gas.
<br>
<br>•       WP5 will prepare the way for commercial CCS and shale gas plays in
<br>Europe through *training of early career scientists *on field site
<br>evaluation and monitoring, demonstrating site conformance through
<br>measurement, monitoring and verification techniques, monitoring and
<br>environmental impacts of CO2 or CH4 leakage, monitoring tools and
<br>requirements for site abandonment.
<br>
<br>•       Recommendations and best practices on the engagement of (local)
<br>stakeholders through *Participatory Monitoring*.
<br>
<br>•       *Communication* with non-technical audiences such as journalists,
<br>policy makers and the general public will encourage an informed environment
<br>for CCS and shale gas in Europe. *We will also contribute, upon invitation
<br>by the INEA, to common information and dissemination activities to increase
<br>the visibility and synergies between H2020 supported actions.*
<br>
<br>*Other tasks:*
<br>
<br>·         Participation in project meetings (about 2 per year)
<br>
<br>·         Co-leadership together with the PI from AMU of the task 5.2.2
<br>Overview of Ethical and Social Issues Associated with Shale Gas Research
<br>
<br>·         Close cooperation with the PI from AMU, Dr. Aleksandra Lis
<br>
<br>·         Administrative and organizational tasks related to the project
<br>
<br>·         Cooperation with project partners, mostly with the University of
<br>Edinburgh and the Natural Environment Research Council of the UK
<br>
<br>·         Traveling to Warsaw and other locations in Poland to organize
<br>stakeholder meetings and other kinds of meeting as foreseen in the WP5
<br>
<br>The position will commence on 1 June 2018 and it is foreseen as a part-time
<br>job.
<br>
<br>A monthly gross salary (Pl *brutto brutto*) is between 1500-3000 Euros per
<br>month (full-time equivalent) depending on the agreed scope of tasks and
<br>working hours.
<br>
