Science in Public 24: Abstract submission deadline Extended
Dear All,
Update: Deadline extended. Due to several request to submit abstracts beyond the initial deadline, the Science in Public 2024 conference call for abstracts deadline has been extended to 9th February. Please submit your abstract by midnight 9th February.
After a five-year hiatus, Science in Public will return for its 14th annual conference in 2024. The conference will take place from Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 July 2024 at University of Birminghams Edgbaston Campus.
The 2024 Science in Public conference will provide a space to explore how the science engagement landscape has changed in the last five years, the impacts of the pandemic, and the ramifications as we move through the 21st century. It will provide a platform for exchange between practitioners and researchers, between social sciences and humanities, to probe the many varieties of science-public interaction. The multidisciplinary conference is open to a variety of formats and content, therefore the sub-themes of the conference will be driven by the submissions received.
We are excited to announce the first of our keynote speakers: Prof. Jack Stilgoe, Professor of Science and Technology Policy, Dept of Science & Technology Studies, UCL.
What is Science in Public?
Inherently multidisciplinary, members of the Science in Public Research Network (SiP) work on science in mass media, museums or online spaces; public engagement and participation; popular science and its histories; science, publics and policy; and science in fictions, art and cinema. Rather than forming another new field or discipline, the SiP Network aims to foster cross-disciplinary discussion and debate between researchers across the many disciplines which address this topic, including science and technology studies, history of science, geography, psychology, cultural studies, media and communication studies, sociology, development studies, English literature, policy and political studies, to name a few. SiP also explicitly aims to foster connections and exchange of insights and best practice not only across disciplines, but critically between researchers and professionals working in public engagement, science communication and adjacent areas of practice.
The Science in Public Research Network is for anyone involved with or is interested in research about Science in Public in the broadest sense. Founded in 2006, its annual conference has been a central point of contact for UK practitioners and research communities that consider the relationship between science, technology, and the public sphere.
