Responsibility Beyond Growth – A Case for Responsible Stagnation, by Stevienna de Saille, Fabien Medvecky, Michiel van Oudheusden, Kevin Albertson, Effie Amanatidou, Timothy Birabi and Mario Pansera was awarded the prestigious 2022 EASST Chris Freeman Award given to publications that are making a significant collective contribution to the interaction of science and technology studies with other disciplines or areas of study. Published by Bristol University Press, the book critically assesses growth-based models of innovation policy and sparks new debate on the role of responsible innovation.

The lead author Stevienna de Saille said, “This was really a labour of love, so we are exceptionally pleased to receive the award and give our thanks to the EASST committee. We began only as a group that met for the sheer pleasure of talking to one another about a topic we were all interested in, with no outcome planned. That we did eventually come to feel we had something worth saying to the world is only a validation of that more relaxed, congenial way of producing knowledge across disciplines, interests and countries. We’d also like to thank the Independent Social Research Foundation for supporting us to develop the first draft of the book.”
