Postdoctoral Researcher Ethics & Epistemology of Risk in Energy Transitions= (f/m/d)

Job Description

The prospective researcher will study philosophical aspects of energy trans= itions with a focus on risk. We understand energy transitions broadly to in= clude (sustainable) changes in different sectors such as electricity, heati= ng/cooling, and mobility. The prospective candidate's research may focus on= (although it is not restricted to) one or more of the following areas:

=B7 Ethical and epistemic aspects of risks related to decisions with= in energy transitions, for example in the modeling of energy futures.

=B7 Risk ethics applied to various aspects of energy supply and dema= nd.

=B7 Philosophical foundations of sustainability regarding energy iss= ues.

=B7 Risk and decision theory.

=B7 Precautionary principles and risk management strategies.

=B7 Fairness with respect to the local, global, and intergenerationa= l distribution of risk.

=B7 Philosophical contributions to Responsible Research and Innovati= on (RRI) or Value Sensitive Design (VSD) related to energy systems.

We are looking for a candidate who is willing to work in an environment com= mitted to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary cooperation with social s= cientists, engineers, policy makers, and citizenry. Other responsibilities = include the search and application of third-party funding (grants) and a li= mited amount of teaching in philosophy.

Personal Qualifications

The successful candidate is expected to hold a doctorate (Ph.D.) in philoso= phy or a related field and, ideally, to have already some years of research= experience on the topics of energy and/or risk. Moreover, the candidate is= expected to be highly proficient in written and spoken English, as this is= the working language of PhilETAS. Command of the German language would be = advantageous but is not required.

Salary

Pay scale according to EG 13 TV-L, depending on the fulfillment of professi= onal and personal requirements.

Organizational Unit

Research group "Philosophy of Engineering, Technology Assessment, and Scien= ce" (PHILETAS) at the Ins= titute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS).

Start of Work

As soon as possible.

Contract Duration

3 years, with the option to extend 3 years.
