<br>STS-research on expectations, imaginaries and visions has shown that
<br>imaginaries of sociotechnical futures, the promises and fears associated with
<br>them, increasingly influence processes of sociotechnical innovations and
<br>transformations. In various societal contexts ? e.g., research politics,
<br>scientific collaborations, parliamentary debates, social movements ? these
<br>imaginaries serve as visionary resources and capacities to legitimate
<br>decisions, coordinate practices, steer developments, raise awareness for
<br>specific problem-solutions etc. For this purpose, futures are getting
<br>politicized. The objects of politicization materialize in a variety of forms
<br>(e.g., terms, symbols, metaphors, narratives, artifacts, traditions,
<br>organizations). We assume that both, the specific characteristics of the
<br>societal context (e.g. power constellations) and of the forms (e.g.,
<br>discursive narratives or prototypes) are conditions for the politicization.
<br>
<br>For example, it makes a difference, if promises of openness are part of hacker
<br>practices or part of parliamentary debates about Open Government. At the same
<br>time, an in-vitro-burger may serve as an object of politicization differently
<br>in the context of 3D printing development compared to public controversies on
<br>nutrition transition.
<br>

<br>
<br>We invite theoretical and empirical papers from the broad spectrum of
<br>STS-scholars to discuss and to elaborate questions such as:
<br>
<br>- How does the interplay of contextual constellations and forms shape
<br>
<br>the processes of politicization?
<br>
<br>- What are the prerequisites and limits for the politicization of
<br>
<br>futures (e.g., for the success of visioneers) related to different contexts
<br>and forms?
<br>
<br>- How do sociotechnical futures evolve in time and context- and
<br>
<br>form-specific politicizations of futures emerge?
<br>
<br>
<br>
