Yana Boeva is a PhD candidate in Science & Technology Studies at York University, Toronto, working on participatory maker/DIY practices in relationship to design and definitions of expertise. Currently, she is in her fourth-year conducting a multi-sited ethnography of design-focused makerspaces, fab labs, other related communities, and their actors. Her background is in media and information design, media studies, media production, and history of technology.|Bruno Chies is a commons practitioner and an environmental activist that has a hard time cutting ties with the academia. He is a prospective PhD student with a background in sociology and STS, interested in researching commons-based peer production and the collaborative economy.
