Assistant Professor of Science in Society (Tenure Track)
32 - 40 hours per week

We are looking for
A tenure-track assistant professor with experience in empirical research in the domain of societal deliberation on emerging (medical) sciences and technologies and/or socio-ecological developments in co-creation contexts for improving the quality of life. You are an active and passionate researcher with a general interest in the functioning of science in society, advocating an interdisciplinary approach that contributes to the analysis, assessment and improvement of the societal embedding of science and technology. You will be one of the main lecturers in the Science in Society programme for MSc students, coordinating the Water, Health and Development course, contributing to the Methods of Societal Research course, and supervising BSc and MSc students.
You have a general affinity for emerging technologies and/or socio-ecological transformations, responsible innovation and public engagement. As a reseacher, you will be expected to contribute to the development of research in line with the core themes of the Institute for Science in Society (ISiS). You will be expected to publish in international journals, attract external research grants/funding from governmental, European and/or private institutions, supervise PhD candidates, build international networks, and contribute to management and administration tasks. Above all we are seeking a highly motivated, committed and collaborative candidate to further strengthen our institute.
We ask
A PhD degree in the Social Sciences, such as Science and Technology Studies (STS), Communication Sciences, Innovation Sciences, Socio-Ecological Interactions or a related field and a number of years of postdoctoral experience.
A number of publications in internationally recognised journals showing both theoretical and empirical knowledge and expertise.
Proven effective teaching skills, preferably in social science education for science students and a commitment to and experience with supervising BSc and MSc students.
Ambition to attract research funding.
International experience and network.
Ability and willingness to effectively work in a team.
Excellent English language skills and a willingness to learn Dutch (if applicable).
A network of contacts in professional organisations (e.g. NGOs, industry) would be an asset.
We are
The Institute for Science in Society (ISiS) is embedded in the Faculty of Science (FNWI) at Radboud University. FNWI is responsible for research and teaching in physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, mathematics and computer sciences. FNWI encompasses seven research institutes, one of them being the Institute for Science in Society. Both in research and education ISiS is actively collaborating with the other FNWI institutes. Our mission is to analyse, assess and improve the societal embedding of science and technology. Focusing on the natural sciences and their relation to societal concerns, ISiS identifies, analyses and articulates issues related to clashing worldviews, mediates between societal groups, stakeholders and scientists, and strategically contributes through policy advice and public debates. ISiS is responsible for the MSc specialisation in Science in Society, accessible to MSc students.

We offer
Employment: 32 - 40 hours per week.
A maximum gross monthly salary of € 4.978 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11).
The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.
In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
Duration of the contract: You will be appointed for a six-year period, after positive evaluation, you may be offered a permanent contract.
The intended start date is 1 September 2020.
