Lecturer in Ethics of Technology (2 year teaching position), TU Delft <br> <br>Faculty/department Technology, Policy and Management <br>Level PhD degree <br>Maximum employment 38 hours per week (1,0 FTE) <br>Duration of contract 2 years <br>Salary scale Min € 2.588,- max € 4.757,- per month gross <br> <br>Technology, Policy and Management <br>The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management contributes to sustainable solutions for technical challenges in society by combining the insights from engineering with the humanities and the social sciences. <br>The Department of Values, Technology and Innovation (VTI) focuses on the value dimension of comprehensive engineering, the overarching research theme of the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM). It uniquely comprises philosophers, economists and risk scholars. It studies how to develop and diffuse responsible technological innovations that reflect deeply held social and moral values. The department is one of the largest groups in the world studying value aspects, economics and risks for a wide range of sociotechnical systems. The department plays a leading role nationally and internationally in research in responsible innovation and design for values. <br>The Ethics and Philosophy of Technology section is one of three sections within the VTI Department. The Section plays a central role worldwide in research on ethics and philosophy of technology. The Section provides for service teaching at all engineering programs of TU Delft, primarily in ethics but also in philosophy of engineering methodology, philosophy of science and in critical thinking for engineering students. We develop and provide our teaching in close collaboration with (assistant/associate) professors in engineering, to provide for tailor-made education that connects well with the focus of the different engineering programs. We are currently redesigning our teaching activities to provide more thematic ethics courses that are open to students from a variety of engineering programs. <br> <br>Job description <br>The Ethics and Philosophy of Technology section is looking for a temporary lecturer in Ethics and Technology for a period of 2 years (with a possibility for contract renewal with 1-2 years, depending on the candidate’s performance and developments concerning demand for our courses). This is a fulltime teaching position. The selected candidate will assist us with delivering and developing our service teaching in ethics and technology for all engineering programs at TU Delft. The candidate is prepared to work in a multidisciplinary environment encompassing engineering sciences, economics, social and behavioural science, and public policy. The candidate has proven skills in teaching and supervising students. <br> <br>Requirements <br>We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications: <br>• PhD degree in the field of ethics and a specialisation in ethics of technology or related fields in applied ethics; <br>• Strong commitment to contributing to education in ethics of technology; <br>• Affinity with technology and engineering; <br>• Experience with teaching students from other disciplines; <br>• "Basiskwalificatie onderwijs” (university teaching qualification) certificate or a similar certificate; <br>• Excellent English skills; <br>• Fluent in Dutch or readiness to become fluent in Dutch in a short time frame <br>• Flexibility and readiness to work in teams. <br> <br>Conditions of employment <br>The vacancy concerns a temporary full time position for two years, with an intended starting date of September 1st 2018 or soon after. <br>TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount for health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.
